Adding a camera to an RC helicopter changes more than the view. The mount, battery, wiring and camera mass can affect center of gravity, vibration, flight time and control response. Start with compatibility, not camera resolution
Confirm that the exact helicopter supports the camera or payload. Check the manufacturer’s payload guidance, available mounting points, voltage, connector polarity and whether the camera requires a separate battery. A connector that fits is not proof of electrical compatibility.
Check center of gravity after mounting
Install the complete flight configuration, including the intended batteries and wiring. Follow the aircraft manual when checking balance. A forward, rearward or side-heavy setup can create constant correction, reduce stability and increase the chance of a poor landing.
Reduce vibration at the source
Blur and rolling distortion often begin with damaged blades, an out-of-track rotor, bent shafts, loose fasteners or an imbalanced rotating assembly. Inspect the helicopter before adding soft mounts. Isolation material may reduce transmitted vibration, but it cannot make a damaged rotor system safe.
Plan power and cable routing
Keep wires clear of linkages, gears, motors and rotating parts. Secure them without restricting normal movement. If the camera shares aircraft power, verify voltage and current requirements. Stop testing if a connector, battery or regulator becomes unusually warm.
Test FPV range conservatively
Perform a manufacturer-prescribed radio and video check in a legal, open area. Begin close to the pilot and maintain visual orientation. Buildings, Wi-Fi traffic, antenna orientation and local radio rules can change usable range; a quoted maximum is not a guaranteed operating distance.
